RUBY!Top of Page

Lake Forest's very own Reading with Ruby program for the 2018-2019 school year has begun. Ruby is a certified BARK Reading dog and has been reading with Lake Forest students for the past 9 years. Founded in 2007, BARK is an all-volunteer program that encourages children to increase their reading skills and self-confidence by reading aloud to certified therapy dogs.  Students can find it intimidating to read in front of classmates, but love to read to the non-judgmental, calming dogs. BARK now has 170 teams listening to kids in more than 100 schools and libraries in California.
Lake Forest students are invited to put their name into a drawing for a one-on-one session with Ruby on Friday mornings. Slips will be available all school year in the library. Each week a student's name is drawn from the entry slips entered and parents are notified via email for the following Friday. A permission slip will be attached to the notification. If for any reason you cannot attend as scheduled please notify Mrs. Carpenter immediately so that we can choose another student to participate.

GWENIE!Top of Page

Gwen is a registered Emotional Support Dog with the Canine Companions for Independence. Children just love to sit and spend time with her. Some read to her, talk to her or even just cuddle with her. Students are invited to put their name in a drawing for a one time session to come and visit with Gwen on a Wednesday morning. Since the number of sessions are limited and demand high, we randomly draw a name each week for a student to participate. Parents will be notified via email if their child's name was drawn a few days before.
