I can't tell you how fortunate I feel to spend my days with your children. The growth they have exhibited this first trimester in first grade has been remarkable. Thank you for you continued support.

Please continue to help your child work through addition and subtraction problems using the strategies, like counting on, working with a number line, and using double facts (8+8 for example). This is also the time when we are practicing addition and subtraction to 20 facts. Extra practice with flash cards or using programs like Reflex Math will help these facts become more automatic for your first grader.

Remember in order to help in the classroom, you must have completed the TB questionnaire and have your fingerprinting completed. Check with me to make sure we have your clearance from the district before signing up. Please check-in at the office prior to coming to the classroom.

We will have snack time daily after morning recess. Please send a small healthy snack for your child to eat during this time. Also, please send a water bottle labeled with your child's name. We will keep these on the counter in the classroom to have available for drinks during the day. It is important to stay hydrated, particularly on these hot days.

Our library time is on Tuesdays. Please help your child to remember to return library books to the bin in the classroom, no later than Tuesday morning, so that he/she will be able to checkout a new book in the afternoon.

We will have weekly scheduled PE time on Thursdays in the gym. We also have time on Friday mornings to run around the field.  Please remember to wear shoes appropriate for running on these days.  We will occasionally have PE on other days as time permits.

To use the Spelling City website for spelling practice, you will need to register. Once you do that, you can use the search tool to search for my name and then the spelling lists should come up

To access the GoMath! website for extra math practice,  just click on the GoMath link on my homework page. This will take you to the "Think Central" sign in page. Once you enter the user name and password, (sent home previously) it should take you right to your "Things to Do" page. Let me know if you are having trouble accessing this so we can figure out any "bugs".  ***Remember to save the state, district and school information so that you don't need to input it every time!***

Reflex Math website is ready to go. Many students used this site for math fact practice last year. There is a link on the Homework page. Enter "cbarisone" when prompted for user name. Click on "first grade" and then find your name. Password is the same numeric password that we use for Go Math!

Typing Agent is the program that the district is using to teach keyboarding skills. We will be introducing and using this program during some of our computer lab times and students may also access it at home through the CLEVER link on the Lake Forest webpage. Scroll down to the bottom 0f the page and click on the blue CLEVER button. Then click "Log on with Google". Enter username and password information. **Password is the same for this site, but you will need to log on through google which requires that you add @my.rescueusd.org after the user name on the card that was sent home.

You are encouraged to send a labeled water bottle to school with your child, especially on these warm days. We will place them on the counter at the back of the room so that drinks can be easily accessed throughout the day. Also, we will have time in the morning for a healthy snack.
Remember...Friday folders will come home on Fridays. Please review with your child the work inside and return the empty folder on Mondays. Homework for the week will come home in the Homework Folder on Mondays and should be returned completed on Friday!
