Welcome to Mrs.Bricker's Class!
Top of Page

Well, howdy!  With only a few short weeks  of school left, this will be my last web page narrative of the year.  I can’t believe that just a few short months ago these students entered my 4th grade classroom as Greenhorns, and now they will be ready to exit as Sourdoughs! (A little Gold Rush-speak for y’all.)

I will be sending home a Memory Book with your child the last week of school. It contains some writing, photos, and small projects that students have done. This is just a small sampling of what your child has accomplished this year in school. In addition, Big Kahuna posters, and an art folder will be coming home, as well.

I am so grateful for all of the parents of my students who have provided so much help and support this school year.  4th grade can be a challenge, especially so this crazy year, so I appreciate all that you have done for your child, and myself this year.  I want to especially thank everyone for making my Teacher Appreciation Week so special. Thank you to all of the parents and students in my class for all of the special notes, flowers, supplies, and treats that you showered me with this week. You make my heart smile!

Some upcoming events to take note of:
Tuesday, 5/11, Wednesday, 5/12, Tuesday, 5/18, & Wednesday 5/19 are State Testing Days
Friday, May 21 is a minimum day-12:55 dismissal
Friday, May 28 is a minimum day, and our last day of school

Academics

Reading: We will continue to read about Jack and Praiseworthy’s adventures as they reach the gold fields of CA in our novel By the Great Horn Spoon.  We will watch the Disney-made movie about this novel after we complete the reading. Students should be completing their fiction book in preparation for their cereal box book report. It is due May 25, and on that day students will begin giving their “commercials” for their cereal, based on the book that they read.

Writing: I have asked students to bring in their favorite candy to inspire some creative writing next week. They will also be writing a letter to next year’s 4th graders.

Social Studies: Unit 4, which highlights the growth and development of California from the mid-1800s, is 9 lessons long.  Students will learn about the transportation boom, the development of agriculture, education in California,  and how California influenced the entertainment industry. Students will begin a final writing/social studies project with an ABC’s of CA book, which combines writing and a review of the history of CA that we have learned this year.

Math: Our math focus is on line relationships and angles. We will continue to work on skills to prepare students for 5th grade.

Science: Students are working on an endagered animal project in the form of a pamphlet. Most of the research is occuring at school, but students may need to do some work at home for this. It is a 100 point assignment, so they will want to be sure to do a good job.

One last note: It was a pleasure teaching your child this year. THANK YOU so much for sharing him/her with me!!
