LAKE FOREST CROSS COUNTRY 2018
The Lake Forest Cross Country Team will be starting soon! The team is open to all boys and girls in 3rd through 5th grades. Ms. Russell and Mr. Dixon are excited to coach our team this season. Please take a minute to read the following information:Sign Ups: Permission slips have been distributed to interested students. Please fill it out completely and return it to your child’s teacher or the school office. Thanks!
Practice: Practices will be Monday and Tuesday mornings before school from 7:45-8:30 (starting August 20th). We will all meet at the top of stairs leading to the field before each practice. Please make sure you have running shoes on, bring a water bottle, and get ready to get fit!
Meets: Meets are held on Wednesdays or Thursdays after school. Events generally will start at 3:30, but we will need to check-in 30 minutes before the meet to walk the course so you know where to run. The first event is at Lake Forest on Thursday, September 6th.
Transportation: Students will be excused from class early on meet days if needed. It is the responsibility of the parent to provide transportation to and from the event. Parents will be responsible for signing their children out at the end of meets before leaving so we can make sure everybody arrives home safely. More information on possible buses to some meets and pick up policies will be shared soon.
Participation and shirt size forms are due back by Tuesday, August 21. You can turn it in to the folder in the office or to your child’s teacher as soon as possible. We are asking for a donation of $25 to offset costs. If you can donate, please make checks out to Lake Forest School. Thanks for your support of our programs. We are looking forward to another great season!

Walking the course is very important so the runners know where to run during the race. At most meets we will walk to course at 3:00 with the races beginning at 3:30. The races are usually held in grade level order with 3rd grade beginning first. The 3rd graders will always run ¾ mile and 4th and 5th will run 1 mile.
I am asking for many volunteers for each meet. We will need parents to bring pop ups to provide shade for the kids and otter pops for after the races. I will need help building a finish line and marking the course for the meet that we host on Wednesday, Sept. 21.
Transportation- This year busses will not be provided and required for the away meets. Students will be excused from class early on meet days if needed. It the responsibility of the parent to provide transportation home from the event. Parents will be responsible for signing their children out at the end of meets so we can make sure everybody arrives home safely.
This year we are asking for a $25 donation from all runners that will help cover transportation fees and t-shirt costs. The shirt will be the student's to keep at the end of the season.
